Srinagar – Admitting that some areas in Kupwara district are facing shortage of drinking water facilities due to depletion of sources and emerging of new outgrowths/increase in population the Minister of State for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Mr. Nasir Aslam Wani has said that several steps have been taken by the department to improve water supply position in the district
The Minister was replying to a Calling Attention Notice by Syed Mohammad Rafiq Shah here today.
He said village Manzapather-Manchater is getting water supply from water supply scheme Manzapather-Manchater but not to the extent of norms due to depletion of sources i.e. local spring changing the status of fully covered to partially covered. He said the department is conducting survey to identify the sustainable sources so that the new scheme would be taken up to improve the water supply in these villages.
He said the water supply in village Khanabal would improve after reconstruction of the collection chamber including improvement extension of distribution system. He said Thandipora is getting inadequate drinking water supply from a local spring namely Nagradnar and Dardpora village is facing water supply problem as no piped water is available at present.
The Minister said 5 projects which include WSS Rangrutta, Wss Bani Behak, WSS Jan Sahab Satboyan, WSS Palnard and WSS Saajanadi with local springs as source stands formulated and are being considered for funding to ensure piped water supply to Gujran area.
He said though there is no surface source available nearer to the Dolipora village, the department is going to explore ground water and after successful exploration the execution of the scheme shall be initiated.
The Minister said that Trehgam village is getting normal water supply from ongoing WSS Trehgam with spring as source. The Sump Tank and Pump House have recently been constructed adding water supply to adjacent areas shall further improve after full pipe distribution network system is laid which is presently in progress.
The Minister said that village Hundi was getting drinking water from WSS Hundi completed under Swajaldhara with community participation programme. The Scheme turned defunct due to poor maintenance by the community. For revival of the scheme a fresh DPR is under process and shall be considered for funding after fulfillment of norms over the years, he maintained.
