Srinagar- Three people, including a couple were arrested on Wednesday by police in an alleged sextortion case.
The arrests, according to a police spokesperson, were made on the basis of a written complaint filed by Nazir Ahmad Rather of Dalwan Chaar-e-Shareef, Budgam at Police Station Shergarhi on Tuesday, claiming that he had received a call from a woman identified as Saba, who insisted him to meet for some work.
Accordingly, he said, the woman took Rather to her room at Batamaloo after meeting her near Bakshi Stadium here.
At the room, the spokesperson said, the woman started levelling false allegations at Rather, while three other men (associates of the lady) forcibly entered the room and started making a video.
“Then she along with her accomplices started blackmailing him and he fell prey into a well planned conspiracy of sextortion,” he said.
In this regard a case FIR No. 76/2022 U/S 34, 384, 120-B, 506 IPC was registered in Police Station Shergarhi and investigation was set into motion, he said.
The police identified the accused as Shaista Bashir alias Saba, her husband Aijaz Ahmad Ganaie and Jahangir Ahmad Dar of Pethpohru Handwara. All of them have been arrested in the instant case.
“There are some other victims of this gang and more arrests are also expected in the instant case and investigation is going on,” the spokesperson said.
