Srinagar: Shabir Ahmad Shah, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Farooq Ahmad Dar alias Bita Karatey while expressing pleasure over the release of Muslim League chairman Masrat Alam Bhat Tuesday termed it a good omen for freedom movement.
In a joint statement, the leaders while welcoming the Alams release demanded immediate release of thousands of other political prisoners who are languishing in jails. A delegation led by these leaders which included Muhammad Yasin Ataai, Wajahat Qureshi and Molvi Bashir Ahmad today visited the residence of Masrat Alam.
The leaders in a joint statement while terming the noise created by national media with regard to Alams release as futile exercise. The Indian media by starting media trial vis-à-vis pro-freedom prisoners showed their biased and prejudicial mindset. The same biased media by initiating trial against Shaheed Afzal Guru sent him to gallows, they alleged.
The leaders said the national politicians and media have always adopted unrealistic approach in dealing with political prisoners related to freedom movement of Kashmir, which is extremely sorrowful and shameful.
Masrat Alams release was a simple development and court had time and again directed for his release but he (Alam) was still kept behind bars and same treatment is being meted out to other prisoners who are languishing in jails, they said.
Demanding release of all the political prisoners, the leaders said, These prisoners belong to disputed territory and fall under the category of war prisoners. There cannot be any media trial against them or they cannot be tried under any criminal law.
The leaders made it clear that the people of Jammu Kashmir are continuing their struggle for right to self-determination from Indian forcible occupation and that India cannot mislead the world community for long.
