Docs threaten stir if MS not shifted back
SRINAGAR: A large group of people staged protests outside Deputy Commissioners office demanding stern action against the doctors allegedly responsible for the death of a woman and her new-born baby.
Reports said that scores of people including men and women from Wahibugh village staged strong protest demonstration demanding investigations into the death of woman and her baby in the District Hospital on Sunday evening. The protests chanting slogans alleged that the mother and the baby died because of the negligence of the doctors.
Later, Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Neeraj Kumar assured the protesters that an inquiry has already been ordered by the administration for which a three member committee comprising Additional DC Naik Parvaiz, BDO Shadimarg, Dr Farhat and Chief Medical Officer Pulwama Dr Fayaz has been constituted.
The team has been asked to submit the report within seven days, Neeraj said, adding Stern action will be taken if anyone was found guilty.
He also said Medical Superintendent Dr Saleem has been shifted from the hospital.
Meanwhile, the doctors at district hospital Pulwama threatened to go on strike if the administration does not immediately revoke the order of shifting of the Medical Superintendent Dr Saleem.
We will resign from our respective posts and will stop to attend the hospital if DC will not send the MS back, Dr Mushtaq told reporters.
He was joined by Dr Saleem and Dr Gowhar. The doctors said that administration should take any action after investigations
Pertinently, Ruksana Akhter (22) wife of Imtiyaz Bhat of Wahibugh, Pulwama was brought to the district hospital by her relatives for pregnancy complications on Thursday. The doctors told the family that the woman would be operated upon on the next day.
During the intervening night of March 7, Rukhsana gave birth to a baby boy. However, hours later the baby died and in the meantime the woman started bleeding. She was rushed to Srinagars Lal Ded hospital at around 11:00 P.M. However, she died in LD hospital at around 4:00 A.M.
Following the protests over the death of woman and her baby, the district authorities Monday ordered an enquiry to probe the allegations of negligence by the doctors.
