Srinagar: The process of biometrics for residents of Srinagar district based on National Population Registration (NPR) data linked with Adhaar cards was started at Kashmir University here on Monday.
In a statement SMC spokesperson said, The function was jointly inaugurated by Joint Director Census C.S Sapru and Joint Commissioner SMC Bashir Ahmed Khan. The objective of the NPR is to create a comprehensive identity data base in the country with full identification and other details by registering each person in the country.
Vice Chancellor Kashmir University Khursheed Ahmed Andrabi was the first person to be enrolled in Srinagar district. The enrolment agency that has been mandated by Government to collect data of the residents is M/s Chinar Constructions.
Sapru while highlighting the significance of biometric mechanism/Adhar cards said that NPR will help in better targeting of the benefits and services under various government schemes, programs and improve planning and security of the country.
He said that biometrics enrolment has already been completed in 21 districts of Jammu and Kashmir state with 80 percent enrolments achieved. District Srinagar shall have to be completed in a mission mode with deployment of additional resources like machines and operators, added Sapru.
Joint Commissioner SMC Bashir Ahmed while speaking on the occasion said that these smart cards have a unique identity that it is based on biometric data and shall have to be applied in various fields be it admission in colleges, schools, registration of land, property shares, health and medical services and employment.
