Srinagar- There was a lull after a gunfight in Shopian district of south Kashmir on Monday, officials said.
They said that the gunfight started in the Baskuchan area of the district after a joint team of police and security forces launched a cordon-and-search-operation following inputs about the presence of the militants there.
The joint team came under fire during the CASO which retaliated, leading to the gunfight, they said. However, they said, there was lull thereafter even as the joint party intensified searches in the area. There was no fresh contact with the militants amid CASO in the area, they said.
A senior police officer told GNS that the possibility of militants having “fled taking advantage of the orchards cannot be ruled out”. “The searches will resume tomorrow morning,” the officer added. Agencies
