Bandipora, March 6, CNS: Non availability of some doctors and their alleged lack of interest in treating patients sparked a protest at Sub-District Hospital Sumbal in North Kashmirs Banidpora district..
Reports said protest erupted when patients last their patience after waiting at SDH Sumbal till 2 pm and no doctor turned up in the hospital.
To arrive late in the hospital and shut the door for patients after 7 pm during evening has become a routine for the doctors and Para-medical staff. The Para-medical staff which has turned hospital into a gambling den do not allow any patient or attendant to enter into the hospital after evening hours, said a protester who claimed that he is himself a witness to the fact that hospital staff kill time by playing cards in their locked rooms.
We are waiting here since 10 am to see a doctor, however surprisingly no one is available till now a patient who was part of protest informed CNS.
Protesters alleged that whenever they visit hospital for treatment they found no doctor available there.
If the doctors come to duty they are always late, another protester said. The locals said that they many a time had to move to Srinagar hospitals for treatment due to non availability of doctors here. This is not a hospital but a hotel for the doctors and Para-medical staff, they said.
The attendants further alleged that the hospital lacks blood bags as a result surgical patients are forcibly shifted to other hospitals. A doctor told on condition of anonymity that despite bringing the issue into the notice of authorities, nothing was done in this regard. Patients suffer because of many reasons. Most of the doctors do not arrive on duty. Patients dont get post-operative care because of lack of staff, he said.
When contacted, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Shah Faisal admitted that it is a serious matter and he will personally look into it. (CNS)
