Srinagar- Two people were arrested for carrying rare banned medicinal herbs in Bangus area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, police said Thursday.
Aamir Hussain Sheikh and Sadiq Ahmad Khandil, both residents of New Gabra Kernah were arrested by a team of Border Police Post Bungus during patrolling at Dhani Behak, a police spokesperson said. The duo, he said, were travelling with horses laden with bags when they tried to flee from the policemen.
During search of the bags, the spokesperson said, around 2kgs of endangered medicinal herbs (Saussurea Costus) was recovered from their possession.
“They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No.58/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Qalamabad and investigation has been initiated,” he said.
“Police has resolved to act tough against individuals involved in any illegal trade and other criminal activities,” he added.
