Srinagar- Experts from Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals on Wednesday highlighted the life changing impact and successful outcomes of liver transplant surgery.
Led by Dr Anupam Sibal, Group Medical Director, Apollo Hospitals Group and Senior Paediatric Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals and Dr Neerav Goyal, Senior Consultant, Liver Transplant and HPB Surgery, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, they also showcased the advancement in liver transplantation in India.
They addressed a presser here which was attended by six patients, hailing from Srinagar, who had undergone liver transplant procedures at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, according to a statement sent to Kashmir Observer.
They shared their transformational stories of battling chronic liver related complications and how with Apollo’s expertise they were able to get timely treatment and undergo liver transplant under the supervision of some of the best clinicians of the country.
The youngest of the 6 patients was a 3 years old boy, Midhat, whose mother had donated her liver to him after he was born with chronic liver problems, and the oldest patient was a 50 year old man, Muhammad Sharif, who had received a liver from a cadaver donor after suffering from end stage liver related complications.

The Apollo Liver Transplant program has conducted over 4005 liver transplants of which more than 450 are in children, the presser was told. “The youngest baby we have transplanted was 5 months old and the smallest weighed 3.5 kg. The first child we transplanted in India at the age of 22 months in 1998, is now himself a doctor 23-years later.”
