SRINAGAR: A day after the inauguration of 28th Masters Table Tennis Championship, sports activities under the banner of ‘My Youth My Pride’ programme being organised by J&K sports Council continue to pull crowds across the nook and corner of Jammu and Kashmir at different venues where competitions for various sports disciplines are being held.
In what is turning out to be one of the mega sports events being held in the history of J&K, 28th Masters Table Tennis Championship which began in Sheri-Kashmir Indoor Stadium yesterday where more than 1200 participants including players above 80 years of age which includes some prominent faces of the game.
Around 120 matches consisting of both individual and team events were played during the day on Wednesday. The event is being organised by J&K Sports Council in association with J&K Table Tennis Association.
Secretary, J&K Sports Council Nuzhat Gul visited the venue to take stock of the arrangements put in place for the guest teams.
While reacting to the comments of the Secretary Sports Council, all participants were in awe of the venue and appreciated the facilities’ put in place and praised the hospitality of J&K Sports Council.
Earlier in the day, Maharashtra defeated Delhi 3-0 in the final of the men’s 65+ age category to lift the trophy. Complimenting men was the state’s women’s team of 60+ and 65+ that claimed the gold medal beating another squad from the state 3-0.
In other districts including Kupwara, Reasi, Baramulla, Pulwama and Bandipora various sports activities in the disciplines of Judo, Gymnastics, Hockey, Yoga, Football, Badminton, Wushu, Boxing, and Rugby hundreds of players exhibited their skills in the individual and team events.
A night football match turned out to be the mega crowd puller as 5000 spectators witnessed the fine display of the game in Khushal Stadium, Sopore. G. N Itoo Director Tourism Kashmir was also among the audience and enjoyed the game till the last kick.
The activities of the programme are being supervised by Managers, Coaches and Mentors of J&K Sports Council. Divulging on the details of the programme, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Joint Secretary J&K Sports Council said, Sports Council is investing time and resources so that our youth are provided with all the facilities that are being provided to their counterparts elsewhere in the country.
