Poonch: Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested five persons involved in smuggling of narcotics and fake currency in Poonch district of Jammu. A senior police official said that following the specific information, a special police team raided at Balnoi village in Tehsil Mendhar and apprehended two smugglers identifies as Abdul Rehman son of Mohammad Shafi of Dhari Dabsi and Imran Khan son of Mohammad Ishaq of Mankote. The duo was immediately taken into the custody and upon their interrogation, the officer said, they revealed names of three more persons Nissar Ahmad son of Mohammad Rafiq of Balnoi, Mushtaq Ahmed son of Khan Mohammad and Amit Gupta son of Ashok Kumar of Ari. The trio was subsequently arrested, he said. Fake currency worth rupees Rs 1.61 lakh and around one kilogram of heroine were recovered from their possession, he said, adding that the price in the international market of the seized heroin is Rs around one crore. He said that initial investigations revealed that the fake currency notes and the drugs have come from across the Line of Control. The gang was active from last several years, the officer added. Among the arrested, Nissar Ahmad of Balnoi was also accused in kidnapping and raping a 22-year-old woman on Feb 22. Police has already registered a case under case FIR 16/2015 under section 366, 376, 346 RPC. (GNS)
