DEAR EDITOR,
In the sad demise of Prof Abdul Haq Ansari, the Islamic World has lost a first rate scholar of Islamic Philosophy.
An authority on tasawwuf and an expert on Ibn-i-Timiyyah’s thoughts, he had been an intellectual guide and Ameer of Jama’t-e-Islami Hind.He will be remembered for long and will be mourned world over.
Few yards away from Bab-eSayyed, he lived in Al -Rehan, which was a centre of guidance for many people from AMU and a training institute for youngsters.
It was a great misfortune for the university authorities to disallow his burial in AMU’s historic grave yard, the MintoE on the ground that Dr Ansari was not a genuine employee of the university.
We know, for sure, that people from outside university, but of great connectivity within the hierarchy have been given and will continue to be given this favour.
Before flatly refusing the request honorable vice chancellor must have listened to the ground behind the request that was being made.
If not on academic strength, he must have been fovoured on historical reasons. It is known that his family was associated with Sir Sayed so much, so that brother of his great grandfather was first Muslim teacher of MAO college and PS to Sir Sayed.
He will be remembered the world over for his books and research papers. But how unfortunate it is that AMU’s vice chancellor will be remembered for wrong reasons.
How long it will take our elders to recognise the real strength, that lies in knowledge and people of knowledge?
