Shopian: Aghast at frequent and unscheduled power cuts, the locals of various villages in south Kashmirs Shopian district Tuesday appealed government to install power meters in their respective villages.
The people of Rish Nagri, Kellar, Jam Nagri, Sedwe, Moshwara and Balpora told GNS that despite paying 540 electricity fees every month, they are have been deprived of power supply. We hardly get to see electricity for 3 hours in 24 hours, a student, Mudasir Ahmad said.
The locals of these villages further said: In past as well, we appealed government but no one is hearing our repeated please since we belong to backward areas.
If the government installs meters in our areas, at least there would a fixed schedule, they added.
The local Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Javid Qadri, also demanded government to install meters in these villages.
The Deputy Commissioner of Shopian, Bashir Ahmad, told GNS that he has asked concerned Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) to look into the demand of people. (GNS)
