Srinagar: The cycle expedition SAILAB SE SALAMATI TAK, launched from Srinagar on 31 January to commemorate the joint efforts of Army and people in saving the precious human lives in the Valley during the recent flash floods, entered Punjab and went through numerous visits and interaction.
A defence spokesperson said, While at Jalandhar, the cyclists interacted with Lt Gen Amarjeet Singh, they received warm welcome at Kharga Corps, Ambala (Punjab). Today, the expedition was flagged off further to Sainik School, Kunjpura, Karnal (Haryana) by the Station Commander Brig J B Singh. The participants of the expedition interacted with number of Army and civil officials and shared their experiences enroute.
During the flagging-off ceremony at Ambala, officials conveyed their good wishes to the team of cyclists. The tour will provide these youth an opportunity to serve Kashmir as ambassadors of the cultural heritage and carry the message of determination of Jawan and Awaam to sustain peace and restore Kashmir to its glorious past. The jubilant cyclist will return on February 15. The participants and their families expressed their happiness for being part of such a unique initiative. These youth will interact with the President shortly, he said.
The expedition has covered 842 kms since 31 January, the day it was flagged off from BB Cantt, Srinagar, Braving the hill terrains and the snow conditions, the cyclists moved on. Enroute they were welcomed, greeted and interacted with by Army and civilian dignitaries. While the cyclists are spreading the message of peace, harmony and post flood scenario, the expedition is immensely contributing towards motivating people for touring Kashmir, he added.
The spokesman said the cyclists will cover a total of 975 Kilo meters before reaching Delhi. At Delhi, the cyclists will be meeting Shri Pranab Mukherjee, the Honble President of India and the chief of Army Staff. They are also schedule to witness the activities of the Annual Cultural Festival Mecca of Hindu College and interact with the body of schedules and professors so that they can bring back the information on the prospects of higher education for the benefits of their Kashmirs brethren, he said.
