Jammu: The World Bank team and J&K Government led by Chief Secretary, Mohammad Iqbal Khandey, Friday held wrap up discussions on the joint report to be submitted to the Union Government for rebuilding the damaged infrastructure and rehabilitation of the people who suffered during September 2014 floods.
Thanking the World Bank team for their visit, Chief Secretary said that unprecedented floods that ravaged the state and caused massive damage to private and public infrastructure needs more than our effort to restore normalcy and a helping hand of the World Bank is welcomed.
After visiting flood hit areas of the State, the World Bank team led by Saurabh Dani carried out on spot loss assessment and in collaboration with State Government will be finalizing the Rapid Damage Needs Assessment Report which will be submitted to the Union Government for final approval.
Dani said that the World Bank will like to make sure that support provided to the State helps it to build back its damaged infrastructure besides developing disaster resilience, factoring-in local demographic, geographic and climatic aspects.
Thanking the State Government for its support, Mr. Dani said that it usually takes more time to prepare a report of this nature, however, the World Bank understanding needs of the people and urgency for it to be addressed has wrapped it up in a week precisely to try and make things move faster.
