Srinagar – Minister of State for Home and Revenue, . Nasir Aslam Wani today informed the Legislative Assembly that Pantha Chowk is one of the most important road junction in the valley and the Chowk has been widened to a considerable extent from either side i.e. towards Pampore as well as towards Srinagar to ease the traffic management on the National Highway.
In view of the huge increase in vehicular population and non-availability of an alternate road, a proposal for construction of overhead foot bridge (pedestrian crossing) at Pantha Chowk for the convenience of the general public is under active consideration of the government. This will help to overcome the problems of the general public besides contributing in proper traffic management and smooth flow of traffic and reduction of accidents.
He said government will take appropriate steps to regulation of traffic at HMT crossing which is known to be the gateway for the vehicular traffic coming from North Kashmir. He said this route witnesses frequent movement of Army / SFs convoys besides, movement of people to the tourism destination at Gulmarg adding that the regulation of traffic in the area involves coordinated efforts of the traffic department and allied departments including Transport, SMC/JMC, SDA and JDA. The traffic police with the active cooperation of allied departments has been making all out efforts to manage the traffic smoothly.
