SRINAGAR: Seven candidates comprising of all the major political parties of Jammu and Kashmir including Ghulam Nabi Azad Wednesday filed their nomination papers for the elections of four Rajya Sabha seats.
Legislative Assembly Secretary Mohammad Ramzan said that seven candidates have filed their nomination papers.
He said that under the first notification National Conferences Sajad Ahmad Kichloo, PDPs Fayaz Ahmad Mir filed their papers while under the notification 2nd Shamsheer Singh Manhas of BJP, Nasir Aslam Wani of NC filed their papers and under the 3rd notification Ghulam Nabi Azad of Congress, Nazir Ahmad Laway of PDP, Chander Mohan Singh of BJP filed their nomination papers.
He further said that the Securitizing of the papers will be held tomorrow and withdrawing of the papers is on 31 January.
It is to mention here that the notification for Rajya Sabha was issued on 21st of January and the last date for filling of nominations was Wednesday.
The polls will be held on 7th of February and the results will also be announced on the same day.
Sources said that the Rajya Sabha member will be elected by an open ballet and with the legislators showing their preference of voting for the party whip. Hence, there wont a possibility of cross voting, the source said.
Nabi Azad, leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha, and Prof. Saifuddin Soz, Pradesh Congress Chief, Natonal conference Mohmad Shafi Uri and Ghulam Nabi Ratanpuri has completed their tenure as Raj Sabha members.
