Srinagar: Liyaqat Ahmad Shah, who was given clean chit by National Investigation Agency (NIA), on Monday, expressed hope that all those responsible for implicating him will be punished and justice will be done to him.
The NIA on Saturday exonerated Shah whom the Delhi Police Special Cell had arrested about two years ago on charges of being a terrorist.
I am hopeful that NIA will punish all those who tried to implicate me on fictitious charges. They (NIA people) know everything about those behind it and I am eagerly waiting for justice, Liyaqat said in his home at Syed Mohalla, Dardpora, Lolab.
The NIA, while exonerating Shah of terror charges, has also submitted the report to Home Ministry seeking permission for carrying out investigations against two Delhi Police officials for allegedly conspiring to target Shah. NIA filed chargesheet in a special court on Saturday.
On March 20, 2013, the Special Cell had shown Liaqats arrest from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, claiming that he was a Hizb member and that he was intercepted when he was trying to sneak into the India through the Nepal border. The special cell also claimed to have seized an AK-56 rifle, three hand-grenades and some other articles from a guesthouse in the Walled City of Delhi at his instance.
The Special Cell had alleged that Liaqat was part of a conspiracy to avenge Afzal Gurus execution through fidayeen attacks in New Delhi.
They resorted to 3rd degree torture and during the interrogation, they only wanted me to accept that I had visited the guesthouse which I didnt, Liyaqat said.
After release, Liyaqat said that he underwent surgery to treat wounds received by police torture.
There were bruises all over my body due to the torture by special cell, leading to my heath complications.
Apart from physical pain, Liyaqat said that he lost his wife due to the arrest by the Delhi police.
On seeing me on television under custody of Delhi police, my (Pakistan based) wife Naseema Bibi suffered heart attack and died. I came to know about it many days after my release and I cant express my feeling through words as to what I went through on hearing the tragic news, Liqayat said.
Liyaqat said that he spent 17-years and six months in Pakistan Administered Kashmir before returning to Valley under special rehabilitation scheme announced by the state government with centres consent.
Liyaqat married Naseema and has a son, Hassan, who is now 15-years-old and held up in Pakistan.
Whenever I talk to my son, he cries and repeatedly asks when I will meet him again. I raised issue about return of Hassan with (former) Chief Minister and J&K Home Minister Omar Abdullah and he has assured me to have my son back here soon.
Liyaqat also urged all the security agencies not to see anyone, particularly Kashmiris, with eye of suspicion.
They shouldnt view Kashmiris with eyes of suspicious. When we return on their (India and state authorities) assurance, they should trust us also. Had the incident happened to somebody who returned before me, I would not have returned. I do not know what was the motive behind my arrest or on whose instructions or information I was arrested.
Liqayat has been asked by NIA to visit New Delhi to complete some legal formalities in connection with the case.
The financial position of our family is very bad. To visit New Delhi, I am selling my cow and bull to meet travel expenses, he said and claimed that the family had sold about ten kanals of ancestral land to meet expences since his arrest.
Liyaqat also hoped that NIA will return gold ornaments and three mobile phones taken away by Delhi police from my family. gns
