Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani Saturday reiterated his shutdown call for entire Jammu & Kashmir on January 26 and on the eve of Republic Day appealed for shutdown on 25 January in Handwara and January 27 in Kupwara towns in the memory of the bloodsheds in these areas.
In an emailed statement from New Delhi he cautioned the parents, teachers and government machineries that they should not force the school children and the government employees to attend the function of 26 January.
While paying rich tributes to the martyrs of Handwara and Kupwara towns, he said, The strikes and shutdowns are not our hobbies and we dont want to annoy the public by this but we are struggling for a great cause and sometimes this mod of protest becomes compulsory and we have no other option available to highlight the excesses and the cruelties of the government forces.
