Srinagar- A local militant was killed on Wednesday in an encounter with government forces in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district, while another gunfight is underway in Anantnag district of South Kashmir, police said.
According to police official, a search operation was launched in Salinder forests of Bandipora on Wednesday afternoon amid specific reports about the presence of militants in the woods.
The search operation, he said, turned into an encounter when militants opened fire upon the search team in the dense forest area.
Later in a Tweet, police claimed to have killed a local militant in the gunfight.

Earlier, police quoted Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar as saying that a newly infiltrated militant was killed and one AK-rifle and 3 magazines were recovered from his possession.
“Search for other 02 terrorists is in progress: IGP Kashmir,” Police posted on its official Twitter handle.
Hours after Bandipora encounter, another firefight broke out between militants and government forces in Bijbehara area of Anantnag district.
The encounter, according to police started in Marhama area on Wednesday evening when a joint team of police and army launched a search operation.

The encounter in Bijbehara comes a day after police claimed to have killed two local militants Arif Hussain Bhat & Suhail Ahmad Lone, in an encounter in Dooru area of the district.
Both the militants, according to police, were involved in the killing of cops and a soldier, besides “civilian atrocities”.
