Srinagar- Two civilians and a soldier were injured on Monday in an ongoing encounter between militants and government forces in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Acting on reports about the presence of militants, a joint team of police and army launched a search operation in Pandoshan area of the district on Monday evening, officials said. When the joint team approached towards a suspected spot, he said, the hiding militants opened fire upon them in a bid to stop their advances.
They said that the search team returned the fire, setting off an encounter. Amid the exchange of gunfire, two civilians and a soldier were injured.

In another Tweet, the police informed that one soldier also got injured during the firefight.
“#ShopianEncounterUpdate: One Soldier has also got injured. He has been shifted to hospital for treatment. Further details shall follow,” police said in a tweet.
According to reports, two unidentified militants are believed to be trapped in the area, where additional reinforcements have been rushed and the cordon further tightened to ensure militants don’t escape.
Earlier in the day, government forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Heff Shirmal area of the district.
The search operation by police and army, according to reports, was launched on the basis of information suggesting the presence of militants in the area.
