Srinagar: Scores of people in Central Kashmirs Ganderbal district Thursday blocked Srinagar-Leh road and staged protest demonstration against the administrations failure to distribute free ration in the district.
Reports said that scores of residents of village Dursuma in Ganderbal held a protest against Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Department for not supplying them free ration on time.
The residents who were joined by the locals of adjoining areas also took to roads and amid anti-CAPD Department slogans blocked Srinagar-Leh road for hours.
The protesters alleged that the due to non-availability of free ration in the Government depots, has created manifold problems for them. As per the government announcement, the flood hit areas were entitled to 50kg free rice for the first month and 35 kg for the next five months. But we want to ask the officials where is the free ration and why they only made hollow promises, a protestor told CNS and alleged that store keepers are selling free ration quota in black.
The protestors alleged that nowhere in district Ganderbal, free ration is provided to the people. There are areas like, Lar, Chaturgul, Kangan, Gund, Gagangeer, Barsoo where CAPD never supplied free ration, said a protestor..
Protestors blocked main road, resulting in heavy traffic jam in the area for hours together.
