Srinagar- At least ten residential houses were damaged in a fire incident which broke out in Kanimazar locality of Nawa Kadal area in central Kashmir’s Srinagar on Tuesday evening.
An official said that a fire broke out in a residential house at around 7:35 PM and soon after spread to other structures in the vicinity. Despite timely efforts launched by the Fire and Emergency Department alongside locals, at least ten houses received substantial damage in the inferno, the official said.
“The area is highly congested which hindered the rescue operations”, he said.
Farooq Ahmad Dar is one of the victims who lost his house in the blaze. A businessman dealing with handicrafts, he says he has lost all his goods.
“All the handicrafts that I had in my house are lost, It has rendered me a loss of at least 9 lakh rupees”, Farooq says.
He also said that around thirty families have been rendered homeless by the blaze.
Meanwhile, a Fire and Emergency Department official said that three of their employees received minor burn injuries and were given first-aid at the site”, the official said.
It has been independently learnt that few civilians have also received burn injuries in the incident, though the veracity of such reports could not be immediately ascertained.
Meanwhile, the families have appealed to the administration to provide them with assistance.
