SRINAGAR: Two Over Ground Workers (OGW) of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen were arrested by government forces in Kreeri area of Baramulla district during on-going anti-militancy operation in the region.
Official sources said that after receiving specific input, a joint team of Special Operation Group (SOG) Kreeri, 176 battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and 163 unit of Territorial Army cordoned off Hail Jageer in Kreeri and arrested two Hizb workers.
The two were identified as Asif Lone, son of Ali Muhammad Lone and Muhammad Ashraf Khan, son of Ghulam Muhammad Khan.
The duo hail from Khamichipora in Tangmarg area of the district, official sources said.
The forces recovered two UBGL grenades and anti tank grenade from the arrested Hizb workers, sources added.
They are being questioned and their role in the militant incidents is being ascertained, a senior SOG officer told GNS.
The arrest of two Hizb workers came days after forces killed two Lashkar-e-Toiba militants in nearby Sopore area o the district. The government forces including army have stepped up anti-militant operation in the north Kashmir since last week in which three militants have been killed while a top LeT commander from Pakistan and many suspects have been arrested in Sopore and Kupwara areas.
