Srinagar- The anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested two junior engineers and an inspector of the power development department (PDD) for demanding and accepting a bribe from a unit holder for upgrading the electricity consumption, sanction load.
The anti-graft boy received complaint from a resident of village Gofbal in Kunzer, Baramulla that he had applied before AEE Tangmarg for upgrading the electricity consumption/sanction load from presently 63 KV to 250 KV for his unit run by his family since 2014, an ACB spokesperson said.
He said that the complainant alleged that Junior Engineers Masood Ahmad and Gh Mohd Bhat, besides Inspector Ab Rashid Bhat (Meter Reader) were demanding huge amount as bribe for the processing of his file for upgrading the load. The officials, he said, settled for Rs 260000 for completing the work.
On receipt of the complaint, the ACB spokesperson said, a Case FIR No. 12/2022 U/S 7 PC Act 1988 was registered in PS ACB Baramulla and investigation taken up.
During the course of investigation, he said, a team was constituted that laid a successful trap and caught red-handed the two JEs and Inspector of KPDCL special sub division Tangmarg while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs2,60,000.
“They were arrested on the spot by the ACB team. The bribe money was also recovered from their possession in presence of independent witnesses,” the Bureau spokesperson said.
He said the role of Junaid Ahmad Mir, Assistant Executive Engineer and Manzoor Ahmad Bukhari, Assistant Engineer of KPDCL, Special Sub Division, Tangmarg is also being investigated.
“Further investigations of the case are going on,” he added.
