Srinagar- In a first of its kind, the Srinagar Airport authority has decided to introduce a new scheme that would pave the way for Self Help Groups (SHG) to sell their products to passengers inside the Airport premises.
Underlining the importance of supporting Self Help Groups in Kashmir, the airport authority has decided to make this opportunity available to those SHG’s which are concurrently registered with Deputy Commissioner Budgam.
Notably, this criteria has been set up so that no bogus Self Help Group makes its way into operating business from the Airport premises.
“It’s a great Opportunity for Self Help Groups to sell their products at our airport.” Director Srinagar Airport, Kuldeep Singh said. “Self Help Groups that are registered with the Deputy Commissioner, Budgam can sell their Food Items or Handicrafts or any other product to the passengers at our airport.”
Pertinently, the authorities have also eased the rental system for these Self Help groups to set up their business at the Airport. “The normal rental for the sale outlets and shops at our airport is about Rs 5 Lakhs per month. But we are offering these shops to the Self Help Groups at a nominal rent of Rs 6,133 only for a period of 15 days. This amount includes GST and all other taxes.” says Kuldeep Singh.
The airport authority has also made the process of applying for these shops painless and manageable as the desirous Self Help Group has only been asked to submit its details through the Airport Authority of India’s official link.
“The link will open up our website with an application format. The SHG may fill up the necessary details and upload their PAN Card, Aadhar Card & Registration Documents, if any. The applications will be collected and compiled in the order of the seniority of the SHG. Here Seniority means first come first serve.” The director said.
It is pertinent to mention here that the collected details will be further submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, Budgam for his approval and recommendation. After the approval and recommendation of Deputy Commissioner Budgam, the Director noted, the shop will be allotted to the approved SHG.
The airport authority has also decided to allot these shops to the selected SHG’s for a period of 15 days and the allotment will be in the order of seniority. “
The Director further noted that the rent of Rs 6,133 is payable in advance and that there are no other charges.
“We get more than 13 thousand passengers every day. All of these passengers will be the potential customers of the SHG. This is a golden opportunity for the promotion of the Self Help Groups. They can sell their products for a period of 15 days from the airport and the advertising of the SHG is automatic. If the product of the SHG is good, the customers will remember it and contact the SHG for sourcing the product even after the sale period of 15 days is over. Therefore, this is also a golden opportunity for advertising of SHG products.” The Director further added.
Notably, the location of these shops is in the security hold area of the airport. There are two such shops already present at the airport with an area of 7 square meters provided for each shop.
The Director further noted that the Self Help Group does not have to worry about the passes for entry to the airport. “We have already taken advance approval from BCAS to issue passes for the SHG for a period of 15 days. The SHG has to just submit the photographs to us to get the entry into the airport. We are sure that many Self Help Groups will use this opportunity for the sale of their products at our airport. This is our small contribution to the economic development and progress of our neighborhood.” The Director noted.
