Srinagar: Amid the worst floods that ravaged Kashmir valley in September, goods worth Rs 150 crore have been traded through cross LoC trade with around 1200 loaded trucks crossing the divide.
Reports said that despite the ravaging floods of September and the cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan, goods worth Rs 150 crore have been imported and exported through cross LoC trade during the past five months. After a brief lull, the trade activities in the region were resumed on September 24.
From September 24 to October 14 last year, 348 trucks loaded with goods crossed the LoC and commodities worth Rs 45 crore were traded.
According to the KNS, the cross LoC traders accuse that due to the non- availability of the banking and other communication facilities, is affecting the trade. Reports informed that on January 15 this year, an important meeting between the cross LoC traders is being held to discuss the problems and hardships being faced by the community of the both sides. Also future strategy would be discussed threadbare.
Talking to KNS, the general secretary cross LoC traders union Hilal Turkey said that the Association is hopeful that in near future, the issues being faced by the community would be resolved.
The traders said that the state government must take immediate measures so that the hardships being faced by the cross LoC traders are resolved sans any delay. They maintained that they have brought into the notice of the authorities that banking and other communication facilities must be accorded top the trade so that same could act as the facilitators in making a decade old initiative a success.
