New Delhi– National Conference has directed its two members in the Lok Sabha, Omar Abdullah and Saifudin Soze, to vote for Ganta Mohan C Balaypgi, TDP candidate for the Lok Sabha Speaker. Balaypgi happens to be the “consensus” candidate of the ruling BJP alliance.
Farooq Abdullah, sources said, has personally spoken to his son Omar and Soze, asking them to be present at the time of Voting, which is scheduled for tomorrow.
The decision to support the BJP government in New Delhi, has been taken by Farooq Abdullah, despite reservations by a section of the party, which says “this will ruin the popular base” of the party in the state, especially Kashmir and other Muslim dominated areas of Jammu, supposed to be party’s vote bank.
Today’s decision of Farooq Abdullah gives a clear indication that National Conference, in future, is all set to become a part of the BJP led alliance government at the center.
Abdullah who attended the swearing in ceremony of Vajpayee government, last week, held a series of meetings with senior BJP leaders on the post poll scenario. Defence minister George Fernandes, Urban Development minister Ram Jethmalani, Parliamentary Affairs minister Madan Lai Khurana, besides Home minister L K Advani and Prime. Minister Vajpayee, had long discussions on this issue, when Farooq was in New Delhi.
