SRINAGAR: Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik Monday said any conspiracy to change demography of Jammu Kashmir and turn Muslim majority into minority was unacceptable.
In a statement he said, The condemnable conspiracies hatched at the behest of RSS and its allies will go disparaged. The refugees from West Pakistan are not part of Jammu Kashmir and will never be so in future also. Protests sit -in and procession will be held against the plans to settle these refugees in Jammu Kashmir on Friday.
While reacting to proposals by parliamentary committee in this regard, he termed these recommendations as a conspiracy to change the demography of Jammu Kashmir Granting West Pakistan refugees permanent citizenship of Jammu Kashmir is a conspiracy to destroy the existing social fabric of Jammu Kashmir. The aim of this conspiracy is to change the demography of the state and destroy its majority Muslim status. People of Jammu Kashmir will never remain silent spectators over these conspiracies hatched at the behest of RSS and its allies and will protest against these moves at every level and step.
This is not the first time when these kinds of conspiracies have been cooked up. In fact after invading Jammu Kashmir in 1947, Indian leadership started its efforts to change the demography of this Muslim majority state to satisfy their political and occupational ends. Now with RSS and its allies in power, Indian leaders have enhanced their efforts to fulfill this condemnable agenda, Malik alleged.
India and its leadership must bear in mind that these kinds of conspiracies will meet a tough resistance from the people of Jammu Kashmir. A nation that has sacrificed thousands for its freedom has enough courage and resilience to resist such moves and all the responsibilities of the consequences would rest on the heads of Indian rulers. Jammu Kashmir is a Muslim majority state and before 1947 the percentage of Muslims in this state exceeded 90%. In 1947 extremist forces backed by erstwhile maharaja and his forces massacred thousands of Muslims in Jammu in their pursuit to change the demography of the state and thus the percentage of Muslims minimized. From 1947, conspiracies to further minimize this percentage and turn majority into minority are going on and these new recommendations have added to the volume of these conspiracies, he added.
The JKLF chairman said that even the constitution of India gives Jammu Kashmir a special status under article 370 and according to this law no Indian citizen is allowed to settle, became permanent resident or voter of the state of Jammu Kashmir and these refugees whose number exceeds 5 Lakh, being from west Pakistan are not the permanent residents of Jammu Kashmir and hence cannot be given such status. These conspiracies are aimed at changing the Muslim character of Jammu Kashmir state and people of Jammu Kashmir will not remain silent spectators over these conspiracies as such ill recommendations are unacceptable to every citizen of Jammu Kashmir. In 1982 state assembly passed the resettlement act to benefit those who had migrated to Azad Kashmir in 1947 but Indian state out rightly rejected the legislation. Today even the properties of those migrants are being sold at low prices by the rulers, but on the other hand people from West Pakistan who were and are not the citizens of Jammu Kashmir in any way are forcefully being imposed on us, he said.
Malik warned that if such moves are not stopped immediately, Kashmiris will be forced to go for a comprehensive protest against this and all responsibilities of the consequences would rest on the heads of rulers and their state puppets.
He said that JKLF will organize a protest sit in and rally against this conspiracy on Friday in Lal Chowk. People will register their peaceful protest against this Indian move of changing the demography of Jammu Kashmir, he said.
It is worth to mention that Malik who had received injuries in his right leg because of police shelling and cane charge on 24th December 2014 when he was on hunger strike at Lal Chowk is ill from last many days. His right leg has swelling and he is constantly being supervised by a team of doctors, a spokesman of JKLF said.
