Srinagar : A policeman was injured after a youth attacked him near police post Putkha Sopore in north Kashmirs Baramulla district late last evening.
Official sources told GNS that the youth knocked at the gate of the police post at around 7:10 pm and urged the sentry to open gate, claiming that he has some work. Soon after sentry, Mumtaz Ahmad (belt number 804B), opened the gate, youth attacked him with knives.
Even as the cop sustained injuries in his right hand, he overpowered the youth while other policemen rushed to arrest the attacker, they said.
The arrested youth has been identified as Hilal Ahmad Lone alias Amir Son of Reyaz Ahmad Lone of Wagub Choorahad. Initial investigation, according to a police officer, revealed that Lone had purchased the knives from Sopore on Thursday morning. The police officer said that it was seemingly a bid to snatch the weapon from the sentry. However, he said the incident was being probed.
Regarding the youth, the officer said that Amir was released in 2010 after his detention in connection with stone pelting in the apple town.
A senior police officer told GNS that the investigation in this is going on and they cant disclose anything at this moment. Everything would be clear after couple of days, he said.
Meanwhile, police have registered a case under FIR no 07/2015 under 307 RPC. (GNS)
