Every week Kashmir Observer features viral content from Kashmir’s social media landscape. Here’s this week’s pick
OVER the years, some of the most picturesque and visually stunning pictures have been taken in Kashmir especially during winters. However, Photographer Omar Bazaz’s “Hangul” picture posted on his socials recently, was a picture that spoke a magical prose of winter hues.
The picture was taken in the upper reaches of Dachigam, shot from 500 meters. Although the picture was shot in January this year, it reached our phone screens only this week.
The grid of three shots has a special mating shot of the Hangul as well.
The photographer took to Twitter to explain the pains behind the picture. He captioned the pictures: “ Took me a week of patience and freezing cold to get this shot of the most beautiful creature I ever saw. Have the unusual mating shot of the same which I have been told hasn’t been covered before”
Hangul.

Incidentally, a video was posted by Regional Wildlife Warden Naqash on Twitter which showed a 53-strong Hangul herd on the snow-covered slopes of Dachigam park in the Zabarwan mountain range.

On the World Wildlife Day, this week, Altaf Hussain Dentoo, Wildlife Warden Central division told Kashmir Observer that the population of Hangul has marginally increased to 261, as per latest census by the department as compared to 237 recorded in 2019.

Perhaps, Omar’s picture was also a celebratory ode to the news of a positive news about Kashmiri Royal Stag, Hangul.
