Srinagar- A fresh western disturbance will hit Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday bringing more snow at the upper reaches of the Valley while rains will lash plains, a senior meteorological officer said Saturday.
“A fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect J&K from tomorrow till March 13. Under this Western disturbance, Kashmir is expected to witness another wet spell between March 6 and 7. A moderate snowfall is expected over higher reaches of North Kashmir including Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora on March 6 and scattered rainfall in most of South Kashmir including Srinagar city.” Deputy Director, MeT Department, Mukhtar Ahmed told Kashmir Observer on Saturday.
“From Monday noon, the weather is expected to improve. It will stay dry till Tuesday. While another wet spell is expected on 9th March,”
He further added, “Fresh weather models have also suggested that a couple of more Western disturbances are expected in the region till March 13 that will bring rains in lower regions and light snow in higher reaches of the Valley.”
Meanwhile, barring Gulmarg and Pahalgam the mercury settled above sub-zero level in Valley on Saturday.
A meteorological department official said that the minimum temperature in Srinagar was recorded 4.0 degree Celsius.
Qazigund recorded a low of 2.2 degree Celsius same as on the previous night, while Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, had a low of 1.0 degree Celsius against 1.3 degree Celsius on the previous night.
Pahalgam, the famous resort in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 3.4 degree Celsius against 0.0 degree Celsius last night, he said.
Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 5.4 degree Celsius against minus 3.4 degree Celsius on the previous night, he said.
The temperature was 0.9 degree Celsius above normal for this time of the year in the famous resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.
Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of 2.1 degree Celsius against 4.4 degree Celsius on the previous night, the official said.
