Srinagar- A massive fire broke-out on Friday night in Kashmir only Bone and Joint (B&J) hospital in Barzulla area here, forcing scores of patients to flee to save their lives.
An official told Kashmir Observer that the fire started from the Emergency Theatre at around 9:30 PM and engulfed the building within no time.

The fire sparked panic among the patients and their attendants, who were seen running from the hospital while employees and others evacuated the badly fractured patients to safer places.
Medical Superintendent of B&J hospital, Dr. Suhail Ahmad told Kashmir Observer that all the patients have been evacuated safely and are being shifted to the SKIMS Bemina. He said the cause of the fire was apparently a short circuit.
“We are on the job, will update the media further,” he said.
Over six fire and emergency service vehicles were pressed into service to douse the raging flames, while several NGOs also pressed their ambulances to shift the patients to SKIMS, Bemina.

“I have so far shifted over 30 patients to JVC hospital. Hundreds of patients are waiting on Barzulla Bridge for their turn,” Aijaz Ahmad of the Help Poor Voluntary Trust told Kashmir Observer.
According to the reports, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad, SSP Srinagar Rakesh Balwal, Director Health Services Kashmir (DHSK), Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Rather and other civil and police officials have reached the spot to take stock of the situation.
The officials have also urged people not to assemble near the road leading to the hospital and instead pave way for ambulances.
Meanwhile, Health & Medical Education Department said that all patients have been evacuated from Bone and Joint Hospital Barzulla here “as per preliminary information” and they are being shifted to other government health facilities.
“The Health & Medical Education Deptt is deeply concerned and monitoring the aftermath of the devastating fire incident at B&J Hospital Srinagar,” the department said in a tweet. “Reasons are being ascertained why the incident happened despite regular fire safety audits and adequate measures.”

In another tweet, the department said that preliminary information suggests that all patients have been evacuated and are being shifted to other government health facilities.
