JAMMU: Police issued warning and advisories asking bikers not to perform stunts on the road to mark New Year celebrations and also hoteliers to seek permission for hosting late night parties.
“In order to prevent fatal road accidents and protect precious human lives, general public, especially youth are advised to avoid excessive alcoholism and rash driving while celebrating New Year,” a senior police official here said.
“Stern action will be taken against people indulging in anti-public activities, especially two wheeler riders, who perform dangerous stunts in public areas and arterial roads,” he said.
“Though we have intensified patrolling and increased police visibility and presence in such areas, we would like citizens to take necessary precautionary measures to protect their lives and property, especially during the evening hours, in order to prevent fatal road accidents and chain and purse snatching incidents,” he added.
The official said hoteliers are advised to get prior permission from police for hosting New Year parties, which can be held from 1800 hrs on December 31 till 0100 hrs on January 1.
The hotel, bar and club owners have also been asked not to allow excessive alcoholism and obscene dance during the celebrations.
“Hotel Bars will remain open till 0000 hrs, besides pub and bar owners are advised to keep trouble makers out on the eve,” he added.
He further said that there will be no entry of trucks from any direction towards Jammu city from 2000 hrs to 0400 hrs on January 1 in the interest of general public.
