Srinagar- Police on Monday claimed to have arrested a Hybrid militant of Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) from Handwara in Kupwara district.
Police, army’s 21RR and the personnel of 92 battalion CRPF established a joint checkpoint near Sultanpora Bridge at Zachaldara on the basis of specific input regarding movement of a militant, a police spokesperson said Monday.
During checking of pedestrians and vehicles, he said, one suspect on noticing the joint forces tried to conceal his presence and flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully by the alert party.
Police identified him as Ubaid Bashir Wani of Maidan Pora in Lolab.
“Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 1 Pistol with magazine and 5 pistol rounds were recovered from his possession,” the spokesperson said.
He said that the preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused is a hybrid militant of JeM and working on the direction of his Pakistan handlers across the border.
“He also confessed that he was in the area to carry out an attack,” the spokesperson said.
Accordingly, he said, a case vide FIR No. 42/2022 registered under relevant sections of law in Police Station Handwara and further investigation is in progress.
