Srinagar, Dec 25: (GNS) Police on Thursday disclosed arrest of two culprits involved in the shocking acid attack on a law student at Nowshera here fortnight ago.
On the morning of December11, an acid attack case was reported from Nowshera area of Soura Police Station. An FIR no. 136/14 of Police Station Soura u/s 326A was registered immediately and investigation was set into motion.
Two perpetrators involved in dastardly act on a college girl were nabbed from Ajmer and Srinagar areas Inspector General of Police, Abdul Ganie Mir said while addressing reporters here.
He said that it was very challenging case of various reasons. It was a blind case as the victim was not in a position to tell anything and was referred to nearby hospital where from she was removed to Chennai hospital. The victim received burn injuries in her face and one of her eyes.
We have no vital clues, however our social responsibility and professional duties are to solve such the crime very fast, he said.
Keeping in view the sensitivity of the case, he said, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by SP Hazratbal Rayees M Bhat (IPS) along with other 9 teams were constituted and promptly launched the investigations. The teams investigated the matter in every aspect.
He said that ultimately the investigation teams made breakthrough and arrested the two culprits identified as Irshad Ahmad Wani alias Sunny son of Mohammad Amin resident of Wazir Bagh and Mohammad Omar Noor son of Noor Mohammad resident of Bemina who are business partners and friends running their shop of spare parts and service for which the major acting partner Irshad alias Sunny used to get stock from the open market.
Irshad who planned the crime and had motive behind the attack, IGP said, adding that Irshad had been stalking the victim for quite some time and following her movements closely. His advances being rejected by the college girl left him in a vengeful huff. Irshad had also met with at least three faith hailers (vernacularly known as peers) and get amulets for the girl in order to get her motivated in their relation.
Irshad then prepared his friend and business partner Omar to sprinkle the acid on the girl. Both obtained 40 litres of distilled water as well as 2 litres of concentrated Sulphuric Acid from a shop in Batamaloo on December 4.
IGP further said that Irshad who has turned out to be the mastermind in planning the crime.
He himself along with Omar reached the spot earlier at least seven times to plan the attack down to the minutest detail.
IGP further said that on the fateful day, Omar carried out the attack almost to perfection. He borrowed the vehicle of his uncle who knew nothing of his evil intent. He left home in the vehicle at around 0915hrs on December 11 and after carrying out his dastardly attack returned home at around 1130hrs.
His right hand was also burnt in the incident of acid throwing while trying to make a quick getaway.
On the way back he threw away the beaker with which he had thrown the acid near Achan landfill site and had his hand bandaged. Irshad visited Omar later the same day and cooked up a story to his family that he and the vehicle had been involved in an accident, IGP said.
The teams constituted not only raided in districts of valley but also several parts outside the state after receiving informations about their movement.
Both the culprits tried to fled, Irshad leave for Jammu-Delhi- Ajmer and was nabbed. Omer who had fled to Bandipora and later returned back to Srinagar, he said. Following the violent protests he had fled to Jammu and then Delhi.
Meanwhile, the parents of Umer established contact with him who motivated Omer to surrender before police and finally family handed him to police.
Presently, the victim is in a good condition and today talked with her brother and is presently under treatment in Appolo hospital. (GNS)
