BJP praises Vajpayee, calls him true statesman

Srinagar: Kashmir unit of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) on Wednesday expressed happiness over Bharat Ratna being conferred upon the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

In a statement here the BJP spokesman Khaild Jehangir said, “People of Jammu and Kashmir have great regards for the former Prime Minister and remember his tenure as the golden period in history of Jammu and Kashmir.”

The BJP spokesman said, “Good works done by Vajpayee during his regime and his bold decisions ushered new hope and enthusiasm among the people in JK. It was during his tenure that in 2002 when free and fair elections were held in the state after a long time.”

Jehangir said the former Prime Minister’s desire to see JK prosper and democracy flourish changed the mindset of the people in this strife torn state. “Foundation of JK witnessing a huge voter turnout in 2008 and 2014 assembly elections was laid by Vajpayee. His people friendly policies and his endeavor to win hearts and minds of people have paid dividends in long run,” Jehangir said.

The BJP spokesman praised Vajpayee’s statesmanship and his leadership skills. “People in JK only remember Vajpayee and they hardly make any mention of Jawhar Lal Nehru and Indira Gandhi.”

He said Congress led UPA regime played politics over conferring Bharat Ratna to the veteran leader. “People will never forgive Congress for not recognizing the great work done by the former Prime Minister. Congress facing humiliating defeat in parliamentary polls and subsequent assembly elections held in four states since May this year has proved that people have rejected the Congress and its policies and the party is all set to become a history in Indian politics,” he added.
