SRINAGAR: With culprits involved in acid attack on a girl student here on December 11 still at large, experts and civil society members Wednesday demanded installation of CCTV cameras at important locations, including all the government and private offices in Jammu and Kashmir to curb the problem of women harassment.
Calling the incident of acid attack highly condemnable, Shakeel Qalander, a member of a Civil Society Group said there should be strong monitoring mechanism in place in all the important places of the valley and in the government and private offices.
These incidents indicate a gross degradation of society. There is a need to revamp the administrative mechanism to stop such incidents to happen in future. The installation of CCTV cameras will be an advantage to address the problem, he said.
Noted poet Zarief Ahmad Zarief said that such incidences are intolerable. The installation of CCTV cameras would definitely curb the criminal activities. They also demand that CCTVs should be installed in all the hospitals, he said.
Commenting on the issue a senior bureaucrat said that that the proposal to install CCTV cameras is a good idea. Its an effective surveillance mechanism that will not only stop the criminal activity but also help police in investigations. Government should work on it.
