Teams of Ganderbal and Shopian police, army’s 34 RR and the personnel of CRPF 178 battalion on Saturday launched a cordon and search operation in Kilbal village of Shopian on the basis of specific input about the presence of militants, a police spokesperson said.

He identified the duo as Sameer Ahmad Shah of Dhangam Shopian and Rayees Ahmad Mir of Takiya Wahgam in Pulwama.
As per police records, he said, both the killed militants were part of a group involved in several attacks on security forces and “civilian atrocities”.
“Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation,” the police spokesperson said.
He further said that Police have registered a case under relevant sections of law and investigation has been initiated.
