Srinagar- Nearly six thousand people in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday tested positive for Coronavirus, the biggest ever spike since the outbreak of pandemic in 2020, while seven more people succumbed to the deadly infection in the Union Territory during the last 24 hours.
According to officials, Kashmir Valley registered an alarming spike in cases as 4072 more people were confirmed to have contracted the infection during the last 24 hours. Similarly, 1920 fresh cases of novel Coronavirus were detected in Jammu division, taking the total number of people infected since the outbreak of pandemic in J&K to 378661.
In the Valley, the officials said, Srinagar reported 1306 new confirmed cases of Coronavirus, Baramulla 825, Budgam 636, Ganderbal 270, Kulgam 243, Bandipora 237, Kupwara and Anantnag 137 each, Pulwama 125 and Shopian 34.
In the winter capital, the officials said, Jammu reported a maximum of 1217 new cases of virus, Udhampur 200, Kathua 105, Samba 86, Doda 72, Rajouri 70, Reasi 58, Kishtwar 47, Ramban 42 and Poonch 23.
“Moreover, 1177 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and been discharged from various hospitals including 716 from Jammu Division and461 from Kashmir Division,” the officials said.
Also, they said that seven more people—five from Jammu division and two from the Valley died of Covid-19 related complications, raising the death toll in the pandemic to 4586 in J&K—2237 in Jammu division and 2349 in Kashmir Valley.
The officials added that no new cases of Mucormycosis were reported on Thursday, thus the total number of confirmed cases remains51 across J&K.
