Police Says Youth Posting Videos On The Run, Trying To Be Over Smart
Srinagar- A youth from north Kashmir’s Baramulla district has threatened to commit suicide to escape the alleged “harassment” at the hands of government forces for over thirteen years, a charged strongly contested by the police.
The youth Danish Hussain has put out a video on social media alleging that he has been continuously harassed by the police and army since 2008 to 2021. In the 9:23 minute duration video that has gone viral on various social media networking sites, Danish is seen making fervent appeals to police to allow him to lead a peaceful life.
Danish, who claims he has spent years in jails in and outside Kashmir, says that he ran from his house four days ago after a police raid.
“From last four days, I have abandoned my house. I keep on going from one place to another. I want to make it clear that I have no association with any party. I am a common Kashmiri and I should be allowed to live peacefully,” Danish says in the video.
“You came to my house, I ran away. I didn’t run away because I want to join militancy. I am a normal man and I aspire to lead by life normally. I am not involved in any terror activity and I don’t have either any interest in such activities,” he said.
In the video shot at an undisclosed place, the youth also alleged that his father and maternal uncle were rounded up by police. He also alleged that police was trying to implicate him by linking him with militants.
Danish further said in the video that police was allegedly harassing him for his recent visit to Chandigarh and recovery of chocolate wrappers from his room.
“Why have you made my visit to Chandigarh an issue? Can’t Kashmiris go to Chandigarh, Goa or other places?” he said.
“I don’t want any policeman or army to disturb my personal life. If you think I am troubling you, I will make your job easy. You have nothing to do. I will end up my life,” he adds
He also shows some papers in the video claiming them to be FIRs registered against him. Danish said he has over forty cases registered against him and was booked under PSA several times.
He also urged the district administration to intervene so that he can lead a peaceful life.
Meanwhile, police have refuted the allegations and asked the youth to come forward with his version of he is allegedly being harassed.
“Instead, he has gone incognito and is giving out videos on social media. He can approach any authority he trusts,” reads a statement issued by police.
The statement further said that the youth was summoned to police station for routine questioning as he is involved in multiple FIRs.
“He asked for a few minutes to add layers of warm clothing in front of his family and he jumped out and ran through a window,” it adds
The statement reads that there are thousands of youth who approach them whenever they feel harassed by anyone and everyone reposes high faith and trust in Baramulla Police.
“We counsel youth, even when they have made mistakes and people are witness and appreciative of it,” it reads.
It further adds that publishing videos while on the run is trying to be over smart.
“If it is harassment, we invite him to make a formal complaint before any higher authority or wherever he feels. There is no need to run,” the police handout read.
