3 Soldiers, 2 Civilians Also Injured In Exchange Of Fire
Srinagar- A Jaish-e Muhammad militant and a policeman were killed while three soldiers and two civilians were injured in an ongoing gunfight between militants and government forces in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, police said Wednesday.
The gunfight raged on in Pariwan village of the district on Wednesday evening when a joint team of police and army launched a search operation on the basis of inputs suggesting presence of militants, a police official said.
When the joint team started advances towards the suspected spot, he said, the holed-up militants opened fire upon them in a bid to break the cordon.
The police official further said that the exchange of gunfire between the two sides was going on even as the cordon has further been strengthened.

Pertinently, the fresh gunfight in Kulgam comes two days after police claimed to have killed two local militants of Al Badr in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday.
Muzaffar Wani of Arigam Pulwama and Abdul Rashid Thoker of Hassanpora, according to police were involved in attacking policemen and civilians in the south Kashmir district.
Pertinently, at least 13 militants have been killed in seven encounters across the Valley over the last twelve days.
