YESTERDAY, about 30% of the daily covid positive report were travellers. In Srinagar, out of the 196 positive cases, 60 were travellers. Similarly, in Baramulla, 15 out of the 79 cases were travellers. This number is alarmingly high and must be much higher given that fully vaccinated travellers aren’t required to get tested.
Additionally, Omicron cases have also been detected in Jammu & Kashmir.
The administration’s response has been awkward given that there seem to be two rules for restraint. Those travelling are given a leeway. They aren’t even policed for discipline in accordance with Covid-19 SOPs.
On the other hand, the administration has shut down coaching centers unconditionally. There are no leeways for vaccinated or u vaccinated children.
What explains this contradiction?
It is true that the third wave needs to be stopped. All precautionary measures must be taken. However, no scope should be left for double standards. Covid-19 doesn’t heed to any sifarish, it is not going to make travellers any less of super spreaders than students.
