Srinagar- Coronavirus cases continue to show an alarming spike in Jammu and Kashmir as over 700 people in the Union Territory on Monday tested positive for the virus while four more people lost their lives to the deadly infection during the last 24 hours.
According to the officials, Kashmir Valley registered 361 fresh cases of coronavirus while the remaining 345 were detected in the various districts of Jammu division, taking the total number of people infected since the outbreak of pandemic in J&K to 345358.
In the Valley, officials said, Srinagar reported the highest 172 new cases of virus, Baramulla 64, Budgam 45, Kulgam 19, Kupwara 18, Anantnag and Pulwama 14 each, Bandipora 11 and Ganderbal 4. Shopian was the only district in the Valley where no fresh cases were detected on Monday.
In the winter capital, officials said, Jammu registered a maximum of 233 new cases of virus, Reasi 26, Udhampur and Kathua 18 each, Poonch 16, Kishtwar 12, Samba 8, Rajouri and Doda 4 each and Ramban 1.
“Moreover, 209 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and been discharged from various hospitals including 91from Jammu Division and118 from Kashmir Division,” the officials said.
Also, they said that four more people succumbed to the deadly infection, three in Jammu and one in Kashmir during the last 24 hours. With these deaths, the fatality count in pandemic reached 4544 in J&K—2209 in Jammu and 2335.
