Srinagar- The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Pandurang K Pole on Saturday directed the tertiary health care hospitals in Srinagar to conduct coronavirus tests of all patients and attendants in view of the new Covid-19 variant Omicron.
Pole passed these directions while inspecting SMHS Hospital, Lal Ded Maternity Hospital, Bone and Joint Hospital, Barzulla, and DRDO Hospital Khunmoh to inspect Covid containment measures in view of Omicron spread in the country, an official spokesperson said Saturday.
He said Pole, who was accompanied by Principal Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar, Samia Rashid and officers of Divisional Covid Control Room Kashmir, directed concerned Medical Superintendents to conduct coronavirus tests of all patients and attendants in view of Omicron.
As the Omicron virus is spreading at alarming rate, Pole, he said, enjoined on officers to increase the existing number of Covid tests to contain spread of new variant in the valley.
“He directed officers that to enforce the wearing of masks by medical and paramedical staff besides patients and attendants in the health institutions,” he added
Meanwhile, the official spokesperson said that the Div Com was apprised by Dr Samia about functioning of top health institutions in Srinagar, and the number of patients received by those hospitals on daily basis.
Pole, he said, also reviewed facilities available for Covid patients including availability of ventilator beds in hospitals, testing kits besides heating and other facilities.
“He also inspected the functioning of DRDO Hospital and the control room establishment in the hospital,” he added.
