Srinagar- Police on Saturday registered a case against 10 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders, including a former minister in the last PDP-BJP government in the erstwhile state, for organising a rally to commemorate the death anniversary of the party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
Acting on the directions of Tehsildar Bijbehara, the police filed a case FIR number 4/2022 at the police station Bijbhera, against former Minister Abdul Rahman Veeri, Javaid Ahmad Sheikh, Najmu Saqib , Majid Ahmad Khan , Abdul Majeed Rangraiz, Showkat Ahmad Teeli, Mufti Sarwar, Arshid Ahmad Ganie and Nazir Ahmad Vaid. Former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti’s uncle Sartaj Madni has also been named in the FIR.
The case was filed after Tehsildar Bijbehara shot a letter to the police alleging that the PDP leaders violated Covid-19 protocol by organizing a rally in Bijbehara on Friday on the 6th death anniversary of PDP founder.
“Regarding the subject, it is to intimate that the following persons/organizers of Peoples Democratic Party organized a large gathering on 07.01.2022 at the tomb of Ex. CM Mufti Mohammad Syed at Padshah Bagh Zirpara Bijbehara in complete violation of SOP’s and COVID appropriate behavior which may result in spreading of COVID-19 and other related epidemic.” reads the letter.
“As such you are directed to book these persons under relevant section of law with an intimation to this office immediately,” it adds.
According to the police, the PDP leaders have been booked under IPC Sections of 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and 269 (unlawfully or negligently act likely to spread the infection of any disease dangerous to life).
Meanwhile, former Chief Minister and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti said “Covid 19 restrictions apply only to PDP not to BJP.
“Covid 19 restrictions apply only to PDP. Not to BJP’s protest in Kashmir yesterday, PMs rally in Punjab or the mass poojas attended by hundreds of people to pray for his safety. Talks volumes about J&K admin’s brazen bias against my party,” Mehbooba said in a tweet.
