Awantipora- Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (DJMC) Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) organized a one-day interactive session on “How to pitch a story and art of storytelling” here on Monday.
During this day-long workshop the reputed journalist and an alumni of the department Bilal Kuchay who is currently contributing to Al Jazeera and other international organizations conducted a hand-on workshop on generating and pitching story ideas and exposed media students to the techniques and steps about the same.
Kuchay explained the process of ‘refining pitches with time’ as well as ‘writing pitches according to the style of the organization’.
While sharing his insights, he stressed on students to be clear about their ideas, and communicate properly why their stories are important.
“It is vital to write about different elements and the new things that you are offering,” Kuchay added.
During this brief disquisition Kuchay who has been published by CNN international, The Times, The Sunday Times, Himal South Asian among others also demonstrated his published stories to students and educated them about the hard news and feature storytelling. The session involved interaction and practical work as well and was highly appreciated by the Journalism students.
