Srinagar- Unidentified militants on Tuesday attacked a joint team of police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at a checkpoint in Soura area of this capital city.
Around 6:05pm, unidentified militants fired upon a search team of police and CRPF outside the premier SK institute of medical sciences, Soura here, a police official told Kashmir Observer. He said the SHO was present at the crowded intersection when the militants opened fire upon the joint team carrying out normal searches at the checkpoint.
“No police or CRPF personnel received injuries in the attack. The fire was retaliated,” the officer said.
He also refuted the reports that SP Hazratbal was at the spot when the forces came under militant fire.
The attack on government forces come two days after police claimed to have killed a wanted Pakistani militant Saifulla in an overnight encounter in Harwan area of the city.
According to the police spokesperson, Saifulla was involved in a series of attacks on politicians and government forces, including the killing a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, his brother and father in Bandipora and the recent killing of two policemen in the north Kashmir district.
