Jammu- Over a month after it was formed to probe serious militancy cases in Jammu and Kashmir, the State Intelligence Agency (SIA) on Wednesday carried out searches at 16 different locations, including a seminary across the Kashmir Valley.
According to a police spokesperson, on the basis of intelligence inputs and refined through a preliminary enquiry by the counter intelligence wing of CID wing of police, the SIA on Wednesday carried out house searches of several members of the managing body of “Jamaiat- us-Saulihat” in Marhama. He said that main premises of the seminary was also searched.
In the first operation by the agency, the searches, as per the police spokesperson were conducted under the authority of warrants issued by the court of law based on prima facie allegations that under a criminal conspiracy with the officials of the revenue department some Jamaat-e- Islami members using the direct and in direct influence they have because of their “deep connections with these separatist and terrorist” outfits especially Hizbul Mujahideen, managed to deviously manipulate and forge revenue records where under a patch of common community.
He further said that grazing land (Kahchariae) measuring 35 kanals under Survey No.4683- Min, situated at Marhama,Tehsil Bijbehara was illegally and fraudulently transferred to “Jamaiat-us-Saulihat” in Marhama with the dishonest intention of bestowing proprietary rights to the institution in complete violation of the law on the subject which expressly prohibits transfer ownership of any community land to a private entity.
“The legal action was taken subsequent to registration and investigation of case FIR No.14/2021U/S468,467, 120-B IPC, 13, 38 UA (P) Act of P/S Counter Intelligence Kashmir Srinagar,” he said.
The police spokesperson further said that the officers of SIA conducted searches at 16 different locations in Anantnag and Pulwama IN south Kashmir, and Bagh-e- Mehtab here in this capital city.
He said that the houses of the suspects/other locations were searched in compliance to the search warrant obtained from Hon’ble Court of Special Judge, Designated under NIA, Act Srinagar.
“16 special teams had been constituted for conducting search simultaneously at these locations. The search at every place was started at the first light of the day and could be completed only in the late afternoon,” he said.
The police spokesperson further claimed recovery of incriminating material such as documents, records, electronic gadgets having specific evidentiary value and bearing on the instant case, in the presence of the Executive Magistrates and other independent witnesses.
“Police Station Counter Intelligence Kashmir, Srinagar has registered the case on receipt of information through reliable sources that the suspected persons have made illegal and fraudulent entries in the revenue records for transferring Kahcharie land to Jamaiat-us-Saulihat Marhama illegally and fraudulently,” he said.
Besides, the police spokesperson said, that the accused have also aided and abetted the “terrorists of various outfits to carry out terrorist and unlawful activities” and cause large scale violence and unrest” in J&K particularly, the Marhama area, which has seen a rise in “terrorist and others secessionist activities”.
“The investigation is also looking into the allegations that funds have been raised by the said institute by different ways for furtherance of terrorist activities,” he added.
