SRINAGAR- A meeting of the Joint Committee constituted by National Green Tribunal (NGT) was held Thursday under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad in his Office chamber, here.
During the meeting, the Committee finalized the factual report with regard to the directions of National Green Tribunal(NGT) which, in an order in OA No. 241/2021, constituted a five-member Committee for submission of a factual report to the Tribunal in terms of taking remedial action for preventing discharge of sewage and dumping of solid waste on the banks of Doodhganga River and Mamath kul, to assess the water quality, quantity of sewage discharge, solid waste being dumped on the banks of Doodhganga River.
Besides, to review the measures being taken for its cleanliness, identification of the factors contributing to pollution of this river as per the directions of National Green Tribunal (NGT).
The Committee recommended taking remedial measures for augmentation of sewerage and drainage system along the Doodhganga, besides steps to be taken for segregation of sewerage and drainage in/out flow mechanism to improve the water quality in Doodhganga.
Regional Director, Pollution Control Committee Kashmir, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Budgam, Chief Executive Officer Urban Local Bodies, Superintendent Engineer, SMC, Superintendent Engineer UEED and other concerned participated in the meeting.
